My KLCI megatrend have shown a 22-year wave cycle being completed, and a brand new wave 1 in motion beginning Sept 1998. Rosier scenario beckons in the longer term... the magical 2000 points will be achievable in 9.6 years time!

My prediction of a big change-in-trend for the KLCI by November 1999 was proven right on the dot!

"In January last year (Issue 227), guest writer Arifin Abdul Latif forecast the direction of the KLCI, the economy and the ringgit. Using technical analysis (see Chart 1), he saw a 'big change in trend in November'. Did he hit the nail on the head?"

Ariffin

I'll sent this time an article on understanding macroeconomic management. Quite long. But, I hope you can put in the Wawasan as highlights. Well, less people is talking about the direction of KLSE. that I know. What I can conclude from comments by Minister of Finance, less people talk about the market the better. He was of the opinion that analyst are just aping what the west is saying. Alright at least you don't give up hope. My view is investors perception has a lot to do in creating the size of expansion.

Public sector growth is more on non-tradable goods - public goods arguments. Capacity a lot in the facilities, but there need a matching growth in productive sector. This has to be on technology based and high value added sector education, manufacturing, and services. You may find answers in many of these sectors. What we actually create is huge capacity. Now, socioeconomic projects being actively revived. These are low-value added consumption in nature - public goods. It does generate growth, but not that will put speed on expectation. Sectoral growth has a lot to do with generation of skills, technology, exports, and imports for investment and leading to quality investments.

Finally, pushing double digit growth. KLSE needs this change and this is not forthcoming. Image building factors is associated with companies that is on KLSE. Again interest rate is low, and market is not giving returns to push short-term investment. No one dare, this time even with low interest dangling in front of their eyes. You can say about fundamental. But, our approach is quite different. Keep on writing, I know some already got fed up with the ramblings on KLSE.

Can you organise a project management course for ICU state officers. I am planning for one. Get back to me quick.

DEAR SIR,

HI, HOW ARE YOU? I THINK THIS WILL BE A SURPRISE TO YOU BECAUSE SOMEONE WHO IS A STRANGER TO YOU, OUT OF SUDDEN, TRIES TO CALL AND TALK TO YOU. ANYWAY, LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF FIRST. I AM MR. LAI YUN WOON FROM TREASURY DEPARTMENT OF THE PACIFIC BANK BHD. MY AGE IS 26 AND I AM A NOVICE IN TECHNICAL ANALYSIS STUDIES. I HAVE BEEN APPLYING THIS ANALYSIS IN FINANCIAL MARKETS SUCH AS FOREIGN EXCHANGE MARKET, FUTURES MARKETS AND STOCK MARKETS. I FIND OUT THAT IT IS VERY USEFUL IN GUIDING ME TO READ THE FINANCIAL MARKETS AND MAKING A GOOD DECISION FOR MY INVESTMENTS. I AM STRONGLY INTERESTED IN IT AND I HAVE BEEN LEARNING IT VIA READING BOOKS AND ARTICLES IN MAGAZINE, SURFING INTERNET AND EXCHANGING INFORMATION WITH OTHER CHARTISTS.

I GET TO KNOW YOU THROUGH THE EDGE MAGAZINE (14 FEB 2000 ISSUE). YOUR ARTICLE IN THE MAGAZINE ATTRACT ME VERY MUCH. IT IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPRESSIVE READING MATERIALS THAT I HAVE READ. IN THAT ARTICLE, YOU HAVE APPLIED THE ELLIOTT WAVE PRINCIPLE (EWP) TO OUR KLSE AND FOLLOWED STRICTLY TO ITS RULES AND GUIDELINES WHICH I STRONGLY AGREED WITH YOUR ANALYSIS. IT SHOWS TO ME THAT YOU HAVE IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE IN THE EWP AND YOU ARE WELL VERSED IN TECHNICAL ANALYSIS. FROM MY EXPERIENCE OF PAST READINGS, I REALISE THAT MOST OF THE CHARTISTS IN MALAYSIA WHO APPLY EWP IN THEIR STUDIES, CAN NEVER UNDERSTAND THE THEORY WELL AND THEY ALWAYS VIOLATE ITS RULES AND GUIDELINES. NOW, I AM WRITING TO YOU TO ASK YOUR PERSONAL OPINION OF OUR KLSE.

I AM VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU ARE FREE TO ALLOCATE YOUR TIME TO ANSWER MY SEVERAL QUESTIONS THAT ARE LISTED BELOW:-
1. WHICH WAVE IS KLSE IN NOW?
2. WHERE IS IT HEADING TO?
3. DO YOU APPLY THE EWP IN ANY FOREIGN EXCHANGE MARKETS?
I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO LISTENING YOUR REPLY AND HOPING THAT YOU ARE FREE TO SHARE YOUR PERSONAL VIEW WITH ME.

I APPRECIATE YOUR KINDNESS TO ANSWER MY CALL. YOU MAY REACH ME AT MY OFFICE NUMBER 03-2320470 OR FAX NUMBER 03-2013244 INSTEAD OF THIS E-MAIL ADDRESS.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. GOODBYE.

Assalamualaikum,

En. Arifin, sebenarnya yang jadi trader di Bivex tu ialah adik I. Jadi sebab kesian tengok dia cari investor tapi tak dapat-dapat, I pun masukkanlah duit simpanan I. He started trading on 18/9/2000 adalah untung sikit sebanyak USD80 after deducting the transaction fees. The 2nd trading dia buat on 21/9/2000 untung sama juga USD80. Tapi I risau juga ni sebab duit I tu  masih berada dalam account Bivex.

Kalau I untung besar yang ni, boleh I cuba pulak KLSE/KLCE/KLOFFE dengan U. Amacam O.K. tak? U know what, your recommended book on Japanese candlestick charting techniques really come in handy because masa ni la I nak tengok-tengok balik kaedah yang dipakai.

Pls. inform me of any latest news that you know regarding the spot/cash market.

Bye.

Mr. Arifin Abdul Latif,

I am a graduating student of the Faculty of Business And Accounting, University of Malaya. I am doing my final project entitled "The Performance of Common Stock in relation to Malaysia Economy Growth". I have searched your book "A Study on Stock Market Trends of Plantation Securities and Its Relationship to the Malaysian Economy" published in 1985 by the Australian National University, and I am eager to have this book as a primary reference. However, this book is not available at the university library.

Could you please kindly provide me a copy of this book? I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you in advance.

Yours sincerely,

Ooh Chin Boon
