"Our
leading indicator index database is still insufficient and as such,
inferences coming out of its utilisation can be somewhat
unwarranted... the MIER is strong in this area, but then again, we

Subject:
the world bank saying
our
economy to grow by 3.5%???? |
my dear friends,
a note to ponder.... i am in the process of writing
another story - the one i promised to deliberate on
my nov/dec 2002 and 2003q3 reversal scenarios for
the klci.
gdp-wise my forecast seems to be "in line" with the
world bank (in nov 6's nst frontpage), or rather
the world bank's forecast is in line with mine (written
in aug 26, 2002)?. whatever! the point i would like
sound it here is that we should begin to lend our
ears when local experts air their views -- and not
wait for some smart alec from the western world to
tell us so!
after merdeka for 45 years we must be bold enough
to choose our own destiny ..... sharpen our grey
matter and make up our own mind and analyses. we
are no less inferior (if not better) than our counter-
parts from the so-called developed economies!
malaysia boleh!
arifin
proud to be a malaysian!

thanks for the thought shirley..... read the nst's
frontpage today? well now the world bank is
saying that our economy will grow 3.5% this
year.... compare that with my 3.52% forecast in
the edge (aug 26 article) for 2002.
well.... nobody takes it seriously when a local
boy like me says something but when the world
bank says it the whole nation will be buzzing....
bye....

Brudder,
Sure
thing the media revere the foreigners saying or
commenting on this pleasant country of ours. Comments
from locals, are seldom valued...that is normal.
Even the Great Prophets [pbot] were relatively
better revered abroad than in their homelands. Never mind Brudder; keep
on giving your sincere comments.
Somebody bound
to notice you; and certainly
many appreciate you.
Cheers. Sincerely,
Junid

| Brudder.
Please do
not worry. You
are right, statistically accurate and strategically
right. But foreigners seem to get more accolades
than locals. It is in the nature of things that foreign
ideas seem more original and respectable than local
ideas. Really, you are not alone as even the Prophet [pboh]
was more honoured in foreign lands than own home
country. The thing is to stick to your own honest
interpretation and analysis of economic data and
distribute them to friends... Azam will support you and
he has thousands of readers and they are decision makers
and know what to do... give
them your accurate analysis... forget about the mass
media eulogising on some foreign analysts who in
the first place get their info and data from us...
Please
continue writing. You
are better than all those foreigners whom our media and
government people are fond of relying on...intelligent
people know who is accurate.
Cheers,
Junid

| Hello,
sdr.
Apa
hang dok berlawan dengan world bank tu? Data siapa yang
betoi, semua ramalan. GDP's growth is only an indicator.
In China one town alone GDP expand 7-9 %, it is even
larger than world growth rate. Now look at the
determinant of growth. It is technology and productivity
that lead to profitability of company. Look at GDP,
profit is small contributor to GDP now. A major chunk
goes to labor in terms of retrenchment cost, relocation
etc., More often technology don't create big profit
growth, because of competition among competitors eat up
supernormal profits, particularly in competitive
technology. We must look at the corporate behavior and
see what drive profit and technology, and examine these
sources.
How
would you address factors that allow GDP to shift and be
sustainable? This is the question you want to answer
initially.

hari raya to & your family.
is there real growth out there? there is so much
tension and remorse that a lot of people are so negative
about the country's growth figures. What makes our
country different. when all around us is not having
growth in their country. i believe we are adjusting to
new economy. This will be a few years of changes and
many will die and the strong will survive. now then we
have to really watch it.
the agriculture industry will
really open out with AFTA and here the small farmers who
do not change will die. i believe the corporate farms
are coming. sime darby is really the company ready for
this growth. What do u think. The electronic business
will be a dog eat dog business.
that is all bye.
selamat hari raya

arifin
selamat puasa to u and your family.
i believe the economy is standing still in truth. it is
time for change for the economy in the world generally.
the small are going out of business and the big are
getting bigger. take the agri business with AFTA the
small farmers in Camerons will have to change or they
will go out of business. the direction they don't have
while sime darby is in a position to be a corporate
business. i see them as big importer and exporters of
food. they are in a position to grow real big from
estates to agro food production and generic
development. they have been so long in developing
seedling for plantations that they have a pool of
expertise to develop further. this standing still will
be for a few years until the world economy have sorted
out the strong from the weak. rule of the jungle.
so
long for rubbish.
bye
